Description: | Algonquin Books and Algonquin Young Readers are seeking a highly organized, creative, self-motivated, and enthusiastic intern to join the publicity team. This internship offers the opportunity to work on our award-winning and highly curated list of fiction and non-fiction, adult, young adult, and middle grade titles. We publish approximately twenty adult and twelve children’s frontlist titles and associated paperback reprints per year. Our authors include Julia Alvarez, Kelly Barnhill, Tracey Baptiste, Michael Ian Black, Ross Gay, Kaitlyn Greenidge, Lisa Ko, Jonathan Evison, Richard Louv, Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai, Yamile Saied Mendez, Fiona Mozley, Dan Rather, B.A. Shapiro, Nova Ren Suma, Amy Timberlake, Bonnie Tsui, and many others.
Responsibilities • Researching new media contacts and outlets that would be interested in covering our books • Writing and compiling press materials, including press releases and praise sheets • Updating our database with incoming media coverage • Maintaining author itineraries • Creating national, regional, and local media lists • Pitching authors/books for regional and tour media coverage • Assisting with administrative tasks, including organizing mailings, saving press clips, etc. • Organizing social media campaigns and growing our influencer database Qualifications • Excellent writing and communication skills • Highly organized and detail-oriented • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under deadlines • An interest in the publishing industry and a wide variety of books Workman Publishing is steadfast in its commitment to innovation, creativity, inclusion, and excellence.
